Happy New Year at Exploring Cricut

Happy New Year's Eve!

I sure hope everyone had a fabulous 2012 and is ready to bring in 2013 with a BANG! I have enjoyed my Winter Break immensely and I am not quite ready to head back to the class on Wednesday (I still have a few lesson plans and a pile of papers to grade), but I do have a special treat already prepared for my students.

Here is my Exploring Cricut project to kick-off 2013...
I cut out all the pieces first, so I could create an assembly line process.
The background pieces are from Elegant Edges and the clocks are from Nifty Fifties. Most of the ribbon was in my ribbon scrap bucket. I was happy to use them tiny pieces up.
My wonderful daughter stuffed the bags for me while watching a movie. I purchased the candy at Walmart for half price ($1.38 for Hershey nuggets) after asking the manager since it was ringing up full price. I told him I found the bags in the clearance section and it did have a bow on the little pieces, which made it look like holiday merchandise. He agreed! Thank you!
One glue dot held the bag and badge together nicely. I received that Glue Dots dispenser for free when I went to the Scrapbooking Expo earlier this year. It was a gift for attending. I can't wait to go back in 2013.
22 treat bags ready to ring in 2013
Materials:
black, red, and silver card stock
Elegant Edges Cricut cartridge ~ Flourish (p. 53) cut at 3 3/4" and 3 1/2"
Nifty Fifties Cricut cartridge ~ clock cut at 1 3/4" and font cut at 3/4"
red ribbon
Hershey nuggets
plastic treat bags ~ found them at local flea market

Happy New Year,

Birthday Hoots at Exploring Cricut

Good Morning Crafty Friends,

After making LOTS of Christmas cards this season, I decided I needed to start working on Birthday cards. I have one or two in my stock pile and that is not nearly enough to even get me through January. I am hoping there will be new challenges after the first of the year (since many have been on break for the holidays), so I can begin entering my projects.

Speaking of challenges...Exploring Cricut has a new challenge beginning this Monday and Die Cuttin' Diva begins Tuesday. Both are offering great prizes too!

Here is my Exploring Cricut project...
I did use a bow maker to make the triple crinkle ribbon bow.
I used mini glue dots to bunch the ribbon. If interested, please click here to see a pictorial.
Inside message simply reads...
Materials:
Campin' Critters Cricut cartridge ~ card base (p. 40) cut at 4 1/2"
Hoot 'n' Holler Cricut cartridge ~ owl16 cut at 2 3/4"
Birthday Bash Cricut cartridge ~ present (p. 22) cut at 3"
kraft paper

It is Definitely Winter

Hello Crafty Friends,

I have been following the news and hearing about all the snow on the east coast. BRRR! I hope everyone is safe and staying warm.  I live on the southern east coast and thankfully we only have extremely cold weather...I do not like it either! I can't seem to layer enough, so I like to stay inside and craft. Well, that is except when I am shopping for deals! Like today...TJMaxx had all their Christmas Motif on sale for 60% off and their prices are already low.

Now onto my project...
This week's challenge at Little Scrap Pieces is WINTER.
This embossing folder is a favorite even though I don't use it often.
Materials:
silver and white card stock
My Minds Eye Merry paper
snow scene embossing folder
silver gems
white and silver ribbon
Spellbinders ~ Picot Circle
computer generated sentiment

Hope you will join us this week at Little Scrap Pieces for our Winter challenge. Karen always offers her crinkle ribbon as a prize and it is a wonderful addition to any project.

Looking forward to seeing your creations!

I need to call today and schedule an appointment before I head back to school next week. Not sure what to get...a facial,  body massage, hair treatment...ANY suggestions?!?! I never pamper myself, so this will be an experience of a lifetime.

Celebrating the Season in Pastels

Hello Crafty Friends,

I sure hope you have enjoyed your day. My hubby and I went shopping and have just about  everything done for Christmas. One final run tomorrow and we should be all set. Monday morning will be spent cleaning and cooking before company arrives for a Christmas Eve celebration. Then we wait for Santa!

Now I have another holiday card. After the black, white, and red Santa card yesterday I wanted to incorporate soft, pastel colors.  I also love how doilies look. It is only the second or third time using one, but I am attracted to the intricate cuts and the varieties you can buy.
I used four different pattern papers (MME ~ Merry) as part of the 12 Days of Christmas at Frosted Designs ~Day 4.
This festive tree was cut at 2 1/4" from the Joys of the Season Cricut cartridge.
The pink bow adds a feminine touch to an ordinary tree.

Other Challenges:
Weekly Christmas Card Challenge ~ Doilies
Celebrate the Occasion ~ Christmas Anything

Hope you enjoy your last weekend before the BIG day.
Happy Holidays,
Georgiana

Santa's Coming Soon

Hello Crafty Friends,

Hoping you are ready for the holidays since they are approaching quickly. Only a few more days then all the anticipation will be over.

I made this card to share at Little Scrap Pieces ~ Fun Friday Design Team. There is a new challenge that begins today and will last one week. The other Little Scrap Sisters have created festive Santa projects too. Be sure to check them out!

Challenge...Santa Baby
I used Santa in his sleigh (3 1/4") from Jolly Holidays on this black 5X5 card base. I have been using them this week and I sure like being able to work on a bigger space.
I decided to use the balck and white gigham paper since all the background papers from Canvas Corp were red, white, and black. I tried solid colored cardstock, but Santa blended in to easily.
Santa's sleigh has a wood grain look and the rails are glossy like ice.
I used the Creative Cutter Room bow maker to create this double bow. I love how it looks! I trimmed the ends of the ribbon to make pennant points.
Hope you will join us at Little Scrap Pieces this week and create your own Santa project.

Looking forward to your submissions this week.

Happy Holidays,
Georgiana

Happy Birthday to My Sister and Niece

Hello Crafty Friends,

Can you imagine having your birthday within a week of Christmas? Well, my sister and two of her daughters have birthdays in December. I always try to keep them separate, so they can still have their own special day.

This first 5X5 card is for my younger (and only) sister. Her birthday was the 17th and we plan on going to breakfast at Ihop this weekend. We always treat each other and pick where we want to go. Something we started doing just a few years ago, but it sure is nice to have sister time.
I used Seems a Little Sketchy design for her card.

Black crinkle ribbon is from Karen at Little Scrap Pieces.

Today is my nieces's birthday and we are going over to her house in a couple hours. If you missed the milk cartons I made for her party be sure to check them out.

I made her a 5X5 birthday card using her favorite colors, pink and green. Since I am not mailing either of these cards I used raised flowers on both cards.
This layered cake looks scrumptious, especially with that sweet strawberry on top.
I used the Sketch Saturday design for the first time. I just noticed I forgot a piece to the sketch ~ the sentiment strip. Too late now! We have to leave soon. She will never know. : )
Other Challenges:

My other niece's birthday is next week, so another birthday card will be coming soon.

Question of the Day...
What month do you think is the best to have a birthday?

Mine is in September and I think it is perfect. No other holidays, so I get to celebrate my day with no interferences.

Stay Creative,
Georgiana

Winter Wishes in a Carton

Hello Crafty Friends,

Today has a been a restful day...the first since Winter Break began. No laundry, no shopping, no cleaning...just me and my craft goodies. Yeah!

My niece's birthday is tomorrow, so I decided to make a surprise to bring to her ice cream party. I really wanted to try these milk cartons from Tags, Bags 2 and I am glad I did.
First, I scored all the pieces on a 12 X 12 piece of heavy DCWV Winter Wonder cardstock with the Cricut scoring tool. Then I put the mat back into the Cricut to cut each shape. Super easy if you lay the mat in the same place.
Since the pieces were scored, folding the boxes were simple. The first time I tried I didn't score the lines...BIG mistake! I ended up with a bag that looks like the Lindt chocolate container.

I did not glue the bottoms, since the pieces lay within each other.
I glued the side and half of the top. I used a paper clip to hold it together, so I could have all the pieces drying at the same time.
Each milk carton is filled with marshmallows...regular and peppermint flavored.
The front is decorated with a double layered (white and blue) Spellbinders ~ Lacey Circle. I added snowflakes (Fiskars punch) to the other sides. Winter Wishes was cut from Winter Woodland.
Each top is decorated, but still easy to open and pour. I used various ribbons, buttons, gems, bells, and twine.
 Challenges:

I have enjoyed popping by and seeing so many holiday projects. If I haven't stopped by yet...please leave me a message so I don't forget! My other niece's birthday is next week, so I need to get busy making her a card.

Happy Holidays,
Georgiana
